Master's thesis — “Real-time 3D road profiling: development of an AI-based image processing system on NVIDIA Jetson for adaptive suspension adjustment and autonomous driving”
Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, Systems Engineering · 05/2025 – 12/2025
Context
Master's thesis at IAV GmbH.
Task
A system that computes a 3D profile of the road without LiDAR from the video stream of a monocular camera — that could form the basis for adaptive suspension adjustment and autonomous driving.
Approach
The algorithm combines the encoder-decoder architecture of RT-Monodepth with the bird's-eye-view transformation of RoadBEV and runs on an NVIDIA Jetson.
Solution
The AI-based image processing system runs in real time on the NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX.
Result
The result on the embedded hardware: 1.19 cm absolute error. That makes it 36% more accurate than the reference algorithm and 2.6 times faster. Grade: 1.3.

Bachelor's thesis — “Development of a digital control system for parallel guidance of a front loader model”
Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, Mechanical Engineering · 11/2022 – 01/2023
Context
Bachelor's thesis at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences.
Task
Front loaders must keep their tool level while raising and lowering it. So far, mechanical linkages or auxiliary hydraulics have done that.
Approach
An STM32 microcontroller reads the angle and pressure sensors via the CAN bus, and a PID cascade controller derives the hydraulic valve commands from them. Teach-in functions determine the model parameters themselves.
Solution
The digital parallel guidance of the front loader model in software — with fault detection that covers failures of the pump, sensors or valves and shows them on the touch display.
Result
Grade: 1.0. The overall project comprised three bachelor's theses; mine was the control system.

FDM 3D printer
Fabmaker GmbH · 09/2021 – 01/2022
Context
The company's 3D printers were outdated at the time. Together with another intern, I was to develop a new prototype.
Task
The prototype had to print fast, print in two colours and offer a 300×300 mm print bed — with a modern interface.
Approach
Designed in SolidWorks using item profiles, assembly, commissioning with Klipper firmware, calibration.
Solution
A new design built from 3D-printed parts, off-the-shelf parts and item profiles, using a Core-XY principle.
Result
At the end of the internship, I was offered the project lead for the company's new product.

CanSat — Team Starbugs
Student team, Bremen · 2017 – 2018
Context
In the Starbugs team with five fellow students from Bremen.
Task
Build a CanSat: a satellite in a beverage can format that ascends to roughly 1000 m on a rocket and descends on a parachute.
Approach
I was responsible for the structure: casing design in AutoCAD and 3D printing, plus the recovery system for the European competition, with the parachute sized for a 9 m/s descent rate.
Solution
Modular design: the primary module carried sensors for temperature, pressure, humidity and orientation, plus GPS and radio. The swappable secondary module simulated a geostationary relay satellite: the CanSat received data from a ground station on 868 MHz and forwarded it to our ground station on 434 MHz.
